A Hundred Thousand Welcomes

Welcome to the Chesterfield and District Caledonian Association Website.

The history of the Association can be traced back to c1882 when reports in the local press record a Burns Celebration held by the Chesterfield Burns Club. Records indicate that the Burns Club became part of the Burns Federation in 1886 and shortly after that the Caledonian Association was formed.

Our aim is to promote good fellowship amongst members and to further their interest in Scotland, its culture, customs and literature.

We currently have around 65 members and hold regular meetings and events, These are detailed in our current programme, [hyperlink to calendar]. Our members are drawn from Chesterfield and it's surrounding area - and include a number of Scots or their families who moved to the area because of their employment. We have regular contact with kindred Associations throughout Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.

Our logo comprises the Saltire, two thistles, Scotlands National Emblem, and the famous Crooked Spire of St Mary's Parish Church, Chesterfield. The saltire and the thistles represent the Caledonian connection and the St Mary's spire represents Chesterfield - the home town of the Association.

Membership/Associate Membership is open to all those who have interest in the aims of the Organisation, the subscription for 2007/08 is £5. If you are interested in finding out more about the Association, its events or becoming a member please contact Mark Macartney, the Junior Vice President [hyperlink to Committee Page]
